Holistic approach against poverty in Uganda

The Lango area of northern Uganda, was ravaged by nearly 20 years of insurgency by Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Tens of thousands of people lost their lives, thousands of children were abducted by the LRA, and social infrastructure was destroyed.

Description

However, since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Ugandan government and the LRA in 2006, there has been relative peace throughout the region, and people have returned home to rebuild their livelihoods.

Vision

Link to Progress vision is to improve livelihoods and living conditions of rural communities by promoting access to clean water and sanitation, and improving the quality of education, health, and their economic situation. Link to Progress takes an integrated approach to development, addressing these issues simultaneously and across sectors.

Approach

To alleviate poverty in northern Uganda, Link to Progress takes a holistic approach to development. This is critical to improving health and livelihoods and strengthening the resilience of rural populations.

The approach includes: facilitating access to water and sanitation, improving quality standards in education, preventive health services for children, access to financial services for smallholder farmers, promoting innovative skills for business creation, and other income generation initiatives, especially for youth.
