Brunegg Foundation
Around 40 disabled people make the Brunegg Foundation their home, living in various forms of accommodation, depending on their needs. Some of these people have been living in this institution for most of their lives, having moved here at a young age because of the severity of their disability.
Description
Many came because their parents were looking for a place for them to live and make a life in, a place where they could become more independent while being cared for at the same time. In the meantime, many of the resident’s parents have died, leaving many of them dependent on the care given them at the home. Because of this, many of the those living in Brunegg no longer have the possibility to go home for weekends and long for a break from their daily routines, a short trip or a much needed holiday, just like all of us do.
Vision
At the Brunegg Foundation, residents without relatives should be able to spend a weekend or a holiday outside the institution. Contacts have been made with „Relief homes“ such as farms with accompanying services and specialised institutions in the region have been established. Holidays and excursions are also organised by the foundation itself. This offer should be open to everyone regardless of their financial situation.
Approach
Unfortunately, the disability pension does not cover the costs of leisure activities or holidays so the residents of Brunegg have to finance these things themselves, which is impossible for most of them. For this reason, the Brunegg Foundation has set up a holiday and leisure fund to make these additional services affordable for all residents.
Impact
The holiday and leisure fund enables around 40 Brunegg residents to spend at least one weekend outside Brunegg or a week's holiday each year. They love experiencing a new environment and the benefits and impressions last a lifetime.
Story
Short report Mallorca
The participants who were able to go to Mallorca were thrilled, especially after the lockdowns and restrictions caused by the pandemic. While some enjoyed lounging around the pool, others went exploring the island together. We rented a car for three days in order to be sure to see everything on our to-see list. We admired the stalactite cave of Arta, the salt flats of Es Trenc and the picturesque fishing village of Cala Figuera, we strolled through the markets of Santanyi and Son Servera and visited the Colonia Sant Jordi aquarium.
A huge thank you to all of those of made this trip possible, we will treasure these memories for a lifetime.
